This article examines the crucial role of speaking skills in the process of learning English as a foreign language.
Speaking is considered one of the most essential components of language acquisition because it enables learners to
express their thoughts, ideas, and emotions effectively in real-life communication. The study analyzes the common challenges
that students face while developing oral communication skills, including a lack of self-confidence, limited vocabulary,
fear of making grammatical or pronunciation mistakes, and insufficient opportunities for speaking practice. The article
highlights several effective strategies for overcoming these barriers, such as participating in regular speaking activities,
practicing pronunciation through shadowing techniques, improving vocabulary knowledge, and receiving constructive
feedback from teachers and peers. Additionally, the research emphasizes the importance of creating a supportive learning
environment where students feel motivated to communicate freely. Furthermore, the article explains how the development
of speaking skills improves learners’ fluency, accuracy, and overall communicative competence, helping them succeed in
academic, social, and professional settings. The main purpose of this article is to provide practical recommendations for
English learners and educators to enhance oral communication skills more effectively.
