This article explores the main peculiarities of abbreviations in Modern English and their role in contemporary
communication. Abbreviations are regarded as a significant linguistic phenomenon reflecting the tendency toward language
economy, communicative efficiency, and rapid information exchange. The study examines the structural, semantic,
and functional characteristics of various types of abbreviations, including acronyms, initialisms, clippings, and blends.
Particular attention is given to the influence of technological progress, mass media, and digital communication on the
formation and widespread use of abbreviations. In addition, the stylistic features and contextual usage of abbreviations in
both formal and informal discourse are analyzed. The findings demonstrate that abbreviations not only simplify communication
but also actively contribute to the enrichment and dynamic development of the English lexicon
