Translation Techniques as an Integral Part of Foreign Language Teaching and Learning: Benefits and Potential Issues

This article explores the role of translation as an essential component of foreign language teaching and
learning. It analyzes how translation techniques can be reinterpreted from a communicative perspective to promote
learners’ language competence, particularly their communicative skills in real-life contexts. The study emphasizes that
communicative application of translation encourages active language use, intercultural understanding, and interaction
between the source and target languages. In addition, the paper identifies several benefits, including improved linguistic
accuracy, expanded vocabulary, and the development of intercultural competence. At the same time, potential issues
such as overreliance on the native language, insufficient teacher training, and traditional attitudes toward translation are
also discussed. The findings suggest that translation techniques should be systematically integrated into language pedagogy
in order to achieve a balance between linguistic form and communicative function
